APRIL 24, 2010 TORNADO OUTBREAK:

On this day 10 years ago, an EF4 tornado ravaged nearly 2/3 of the state. Yazoo City, Mississippi was one of the hardest hit communities in the state. The tornado tracked 149 miles and is currently the longest track tornado ever in the state of Mississippi. This tornado is also the 2nd widest ever in the state. This 1.75 mile destructive tornado injured 146, and sadly 10 people lost their life. To this day you can see the aftermath of where the tornado struck. Once heavily wooded areas are open fields of kudzu. Below are photos of the tornado and the destruction that was caused by it. It is storms like these that inspire us to keep people up to date and weather aware. This can happen anywhere and at any time. This is why it’s very important to stay weather aware and to have a severe weather plan that can be put into action! #MSwx #ThisDayInWXHistory
